Music student Leon Channer is leaving Jamaica to go to Hampton, Virginia for four days of ska music.
The final year drumming student at the Alpha School of Music is ready to represent Jamaica and Alpha at Supernova International Ska Festival in Hampton, Virginia.
Sponsored by Jamaica Nice., the Supernova Internship is more than just a festival appearance—it’s a chance for an emerging musician to learn, connect, and share his country’s musical legacy with peers from around the globe.
“The bands playing Supernova play Jamaican music in a way I don’t normally hear,” said Channer, who like many musicians experiences music in culinary terms and already found one band whose recipes he cant wait taste.
"The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble is disgusting ['very, very good'
in layman's terms]. I am really looking forward to the flavours they cook up at Supernova and hopefully I get a chance to meet the band.”
